John Whitley

John Whitley

is a senior executive and business advisor who served most recently as the acting Secretary of the Army.  He has also served as the Assistant Secretary of the Army for Financial Management and Comptroller (i.e., the Army CFO) and the acting Director of Cost Assessment and Program Evaluation (DCAPE), where he led investment planning for DoD.  In prior government service, John worked in the Departments of Defense and Homeland Security, the U.S. Senate, and served in the Army.  Outside of government, he has served and published extensively at defense think tanks, including the Institute for Defense Analyses, and academia, including the University of Adelaide in Australia.  He also advises defense companies ranging from large prime contractors to new start-ups and supports defense private equity investing.   John has a PhD and MA in economics from the University of Chicago and undergraduate degrees from Virginia Tech.  He lives in Alexandria Virginia with his wife and children.
